New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has given private developer Emaar MGF a week’s time to demolish the 17 contentious lats at the Commonwealth Games Village.
The Games village, meant to house 8,000 athletes and offiials arriving in Delhi for the porting event, was built on a public private partnership basis between DDA and Emaar MGF.
The residential complex has 4 towers with total 1,168 flats but it was found during an audit hat the developer had exceedd the prescribed Floor Area Ratio (FAR).
Due to contention over the ate of these extra flats, the development authority had withheld the completion cerificate of the complex and is yet to hand over the flats to Emaar MGF. As a result, the private developer has been unable to provide possession of he flats to those who had bought them.
To break the impasse, Emaar had offered to get 17 flats demolshed so that the rest of the flats ould be handed over. DDA’s building department had subequently passed an order for the demolition of these flats.
“The developer has about a week’s time to carry out the demolition or we will have to carry it out ourselves,“ said a senior DDA official, who didn’t wish to be identified.
“The completion certificate can be issued only after that.“
An Emaar MGF spokesperson, however, said the process of demolition has begun and the 17 flats will be removed very soon. These 17 flats are built in the upper basement area of the Games village and were not sold along with the other flats.
Though Emaar had earlier contended that as Delhi’s master plan 2021, 5% of FAR is within permissible limit that can be regularised, it later agreed to demolish the extra covered area to expedite handing over of the rest of the flats.
