NEW DELHI: Joining the bandwagon of politicians announcing freebies to the World Cup winning Indian cricket team, the Municipal Corporation ofDelhi ( MCD) has decided to waive-off property tax of five players for lifetime. Delhi Mayor P R Sawhey has sent a proposal to the commissioner, K S Mehra, in this regard.
As per the proposal, all the five players - Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir, Piyush Chawla and Ashish Nehra-will not have to pay property tax in Delhi. "Tax on only one property, registered under their name, will be waived-off for lifetime. We have directed the commissioner to table the proposal in the next meeting of the standing committee. Earlier, we had made a similar provisions for war heroes, award winners, etc,'' said Sawhney.
The special tax exemption will be made under section 177 of the Delhi Municipal Act.
"This is the least we can do for them. They have made our country proud,'' said Sawhney.
