NEW DELHI: Tracking ownership details of properties in Lutyens' Delhi to get your leasehold property converted to freehold — so that you can become the rightful owner — is likely to become a hassle-free task.
All records, data, ownership details of properties under the jurisdiction of land & development office, including those in Lutyens' Delhi, and details of housing schemes, markets, community facilities, parks, roads, drainage and waterbodies under the purview of Delhi Development Authority will be soon available to all state departments and civic agencies through the global information system (GIS) platform of the Delhi State Spatial Data Infrastructure Project (DSSDIP). The step is seen as a move to cut red-tape in urban planning process.
The UD ministry has directed the land & development office and DDA to provide all information to the Delhi government's information technology department so that it can be incorporated in the database. This will enable all departments to access, use and share information through secured communication networks as per the Delhi Geographical Spatial Data Infrastructure (Management, Control, Administration, Security and Safety) Act, 2011. Starting August 1, departments will be expected to submit the status of projects on the platform so that other departments can access the information and plan accordingly.
"This move to put ownership details of properties under the jurisdiction of L&DO on the common database is seen as a significant step because a large number of properties in areas like Lutyens' Delhi and resettlement colonies like Lajpat Nagar and Patel Nagar are still on lease. People find it difficult to track ownership records. But with the Centre deciding to share data, people will find it easier to track the record and convert their properties to freehold. The system will be more transparent," Delhi information technology secretary Savitur Prasad said.
DSSDIP is an interconnected 3-D global information system. It involves capturing geographical and urban features for systematic coordinated urban planning, project implementation and overall governance.
In a presentation made before Union urban development minister Kamal Nath and LG Tejendra Khanna on May 24, the IT department reflected on the peculiar problems in governance in the capital. It was pointed out that since there are too many agencies like MCD, DDA, DJB and state departments, coordination and decision-making is cumbersome.
