Illegal construction can cost water, power supply - Hindustan Times

Illegal construction can cost water, power supply - Hindustan Times:
"Adding an extra floor to your house or constructing a new extension without proper approval can now cost you your electricity and water connection. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), in its bid to check illegal construction in the city, is writing to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and power distr

ibution companies, asking them to disconnect water and power supplies to properties found flouting construction norms.
In cases of buildings where illegal constructions are being carried out, the entire building’s supply will be cut. However, in cases of unauthorised construction on a particular floor, power and water services to that floor will be cut.

“Power and water service providers are being informed about the action being carried out by us,' said Deep Mathur, director, press and information, MCD.

“The distribution companies had shown reservation earlier, claiming that they would take action against the property only after it has been completely razed. But in majority of cases, the complete building is not unauthorized. There are unauthorized portions. They have now been told to start taking action on all kinds of illegal construction,” said a senior MCD official."
